Smith and Williams blurred the line between indoors and outdoors by using post-and-beam construction with thin supporting members and large swaths of glass for airy, light-filled spaces. They extended roof beams and flooring beyond entryways to fuse a building to its' environment, and purposefully exposed the structural components of their projects to act as design elements. Originally designed and built as Williams private office, the Wayne Williams House was eventually expanded by the firm to become he and his wife Marilyn's personal home.
